Many turn to popsicles as the warm summer days approach. Frios Gourmet Pops, 105 N. Greenwood Ave., is owned by Angela Busby, who came across the brand on a 2016 trip to Galveston, Texas. She opened her storefront in historic Greenwood on July 1, 2017.
Busby says she was sold on the whole fruit and real food ingredients used in the product, which she calls a healthy dessert alternative.
Although her shop doesn’t sell alcohol, Busby says many have come to use the popsicles as an accessory and flavor enhancer to cocktails and spirits — affectionally known as “poptails.”
Pair a pink lemonade or strawberry mango popsicle with a glass of Prosecco and you have a bubbly, fruity libation. A creamy coconut popsicle adds a touch of the islands to a classic rum and cola. A dunk of the caramel sea salt popsicle into a neat bourbon is indulgence in a glass.
Frios boasts 60 flavors throughout the year, with signature pops like birthday cake, blackberry ginger lemonade, strawberry mango, banana pudding and blueberry cheesecake alongside “carousel” or seasonal flavors like strawberry shortcake, peanut butter cup and mint chocolate chip. Popsicles are $4.
You might spot the tie-dyed Frios van and cart around town at festivals and special events. Popsicles also can be delivered for free on Fridays. Visit facebook.com/friosgourmetpopstulsa for more.
